LANAP®
(Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)

Basic Steps of the LANAP® Protocol

Laser gum surgery enjoys a high rate of success and most patients find that they are good candidates for this gum disease treatment, because it has zero contraindications. Even patients who were not able to have traditional gum disease treatment due to existing medical conditions or related prescription drugs have been able to undergo laser gum surgery. Dr. Seda performs laser gum surgery in our Marin County, CA office, in two sessions of two hours each. Most patients return to work the day after this minimally invasive gum disease treatment.

The Process of Laser Gum Surgery for Gum Disease Treatment

Dr. Seda will first measure the depth of the pockets of your gums and also assess your current level of attachment loss. The pulsed light of the laser is then utilized to eliminate the bacteria in your periodontal pockets and remove diseased tissue.

The next step in this innovative gum disease treatment is to use ultrasonic scalers to remove calculus from the tooth roots. Dr. Seda will then use the laser to stimulate the root, bone, and gum tissue, which activates the blood to form a clot, effectively sealing off the area. He will then simply compress the gum tissue against the roots of your teeth to close off the site of the gum disease treatment.

At this time, Dr. Seda will make any adjustments to your bite that may be necessary and evaluate any impact the laser gum surgery had upon any other teeth.
