New Teeth in One Day

Marin Contemporary Perio & Implant Concepts

Losing teeth can be a scary prospect but rest assured that advances in dental technology have allowed treatment to progress so that you can leave your dental office with a full smile in just one visit!

Dental implants can be used to support an entire arch of teeth or just a few. Patients with implant-supported restorations have a higher success rate and feel more comfortable than with traditional dentures or other restorations.

What is involved with implant surgery?

Your doctor will take study models, x-rays, and CT scans before beginning treatment. These diagnostics will help them determine exactly where your implants need to be placed and if you will be requiring any bone or gum tissue graft. If you do require a bone graft, this can be performed at the same time as your implant placement surgery.

If you are having an entire arch of teeth replaced, your doctor will plan four to six implants though eight can be used if necessary.

On the day of surgery, your doctor will numb the area or areas receiving an implant. They will then make an incision into the gum tissue and place an implant directly into the jaw bone. If you need a bone graft, that will be placed before the site is closed. Your doctor will then fit you with temporary teeth so that you can go about your life while your implants heal.

After Implant Placement Surgery

As you heal, your doctor will have you back in the office for follow up appointments to monitor your progression. There will be some restrictions in your diet and physical activity routines but your doctor will detail those before your surgery and give you a list to take home.

Your new, permanent teeth can be placed 3 to 6 months after your implant surgery. Before your permanent teeth are fabricated, your doctor will discuss material options with you and advise which one is best for your individual case. Material options include porcelain, zirconia, and acrylic. All are incredibly natural looking but very in price and longevity.

Once you are fully healed, your permanent teeth will be screwed onto your implants. It may take a few visits to get them perfect with minor adjustments but once you are 100% satisfied, you will be able to eat and speak without any lifting or slipping.

It is important to return to your doctor at least once a year to have your implants checked in addition to your regular cleanings. Your doctor may advise that you add another cleaning each year instead of staying with the typical two. You will not be able to remove your implant-supported prosthesis yourself so it is important to have the implants cleaned and the gum tissue cleaned by a professional. Implants are incredibly durable and can last a lifetime with proper care.
