Reviews About Dr. Seda
What is PRGF?
Platelet Rich Growth Factor (PRGF) is a plasma rich protein (PRP) captured by fractioning your blood into its component parts. As your body heals, it releases proteins called growth factors (GF). These proteins facilitate healing and encourage the body to reproduce cells necessary for repairing and healing the affected area following treatment, in addition to regulating cell interaction to ensure healing takes place.
As you begin the recovery process following your periodontal procedure, your body works hard to restore tissue, bone, and blood vessels to the area where the surgery occurred. PRFG can play an essential role in helping the body speed up this regeneration process and heal itself faster.
Your periodontist may recommend the use of Plasma-rich growth factors if you are having any of the following procedures:
- Gingival Grafting
- Ridge Augmentation/Bone Grafting
- Direct Sinus Lifts
- Multiple Implants
What is Platelet Rich Fibrin?
Your periodontist may also use Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) to speed up the healing process. Platelet Rich Fibrin speeds up the body’s natural healing process by inundating a wound with various cell-types that are rich in platelets. Platelets are uniquely designed to facilitate the formation of blood clots, and also releases growth factors, which play critical roles in healing wounds.
To prepare the Platelet Rich Fibrin, your dentist will place a sample of your blood into a centrifuge, which will extract the necessary growth factors that are needed to help speed up the healing process. This process can be taken care of at our office and will generally only take around fifteen minutes to complete.
Once the PRF is prepared, it can be used to begin facilitating the healing process following various procedures, including but not limited to sinus lifts, bone grafts, onlay and inlay grafts, palate defects, bone defects, cleft closure, and fistulas that can develop between the sinus and mouth cavity.

What PRGF Does
Platelet Rich Growth Factors have recently grown in popularity due to their ability to accelerate the healing process. When the body begins to naturally heal itself of a wound, it sends platelets to the affect area, which begin to build a blood clot around the affected area. One of the ways the body helps facilitate this healing process is through growth factors. These growth factors effectively help regenerate new tissues and also speeds up the bodies process for repairing the wound. By infusing additional growth factor into your treatment, you can effectively speed up the rate at which new and healthier tissue will form.
PRGF Benefits
Using Plasma Rich in Growth Factors has many advantages, the most significant of which is that it will help facilitate tissue regeneration at a much faster rate. Additional benefits to using PRGF include its ability to assist in:
- Repair of bone defects following small cyst or tooth removal
- Bone grafts, sinus lifts, ridge augmentation, and onlay and inlay graft procedures
- Repairing fistulas which can develop between the sinus cavity and the mouth
Advantages of PRF
Using Platelet Rich Fibrin has many advantages, the most significant of which is that it will help facilitate tissue regeneration at a much faster rate, reduce the change for infection, and decrease swelling/pain. Additional benefits include zero chance of transmitting disease because he PRF is concentrated from the patient’s own system.
Associated Costs
The final cost of PRGF or PRF will vary depending upon a variety of factors, but it is important to be aware that these procedures are not commonly covered by insurance. At Marin Contemporary Perio and Implant Concepts, we are committed to helping you receive the care you need to receive the results you deserve.
